Canada is temporarily withdrawing non-essential staff from the Ukrainian embassy

The Canadian foreign minister announced on Sunday that he would withdraw non-essential staff from the Ukrainian embassy. He said that the highest priority is the safety and security of Canadians, news.ro reports.

“As we continue to monitor the situation closely, our highest priority remains the safety and security of Canadians. Our officials are prepared to provide consular assistance to Canadian citizens as needed,” the ministry said in a statement.

Last week, Canada said it would strengthen its embassy team with experts in security, conflict management, democratic reform and consular services.

“Together, they will increase our diplomatic capacity and allow us to continue to assess and respond to the evolving situation in support of Ukraine,” the ministry said in a statement.

The international conflict over Russian troops on the Ukrainian border is growing. NATO and the United States are trying to find a diplomatic way for Russia to drop the assault on Ukraine, a decision that could destabilize the global economy.
