THE TEAM NEWS
NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS
Newcastle Knights stunned Sydney Roosters in their opening game of the new season and will be desperate to show that is the level they are expecting to be at this season but they have been handed a big blow 24 hours from kick-off.
Talisman Kalyn Ponga has been ruled out of the contest so Tex Hoy will slot in at fullback but with just two losses in their last eight NRL matches, the Knights will hope they have enough despite the absence of their co-captain.
Starting 13: Hoy, Young, Gagai, Best, Tuala, Clifford, Clune, Klemmer, Randall, J. Saifiti, Frizell, Fitzgibbon, Mann – Interchanges: Crossland, Barnett, Thompson, Momoisea – Reserves: Croker, Sasagi
Unavailable: Daniel Saifiti, Sauaso Sue, Bailey Hodgson, Hymel Hunt, Jayden Brailey, Edrick Lee
WESTS TIGERS
Wests Tigers produced a valiant effort against Melbourne Storm last week but ultimately could not hang on to their second half lead which saw them succumb to a late defeat.
Wests went toe-to-toe with the Storm for much of the game and Michael Maguire will have been content with what he saw but their challenge will be to back that up as they aim to snap a four-game losing streak stretching back to last season.

The Knights should have a big home crowd on hand for their clash with Wests Tigers with supporters buoyed by their strong start to the season.
That 20-6 win over the more-fancied Roosters was arguably the team performance of the opening round, with the new halves pairing combining well and recruit Dane Gagai adding much-needed spark.
The Tigers can take plenty of positives of their own from a hard-fought 26-16 loss to another premiership heavyweght in the Storm, with the contest sitting at three tries apiece until the final 15 minutes.

“In a huge blow Kalyn Ponga is out with a knee injury,” The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio said on Triple M.
“Coach Adam O’Brien has confirmed it, he has not recovered in time for the game. This is a big loss for the Knights. Tex Hoy is the man to replace him.”
Ponga is expected to be ready and return back to the squad for their Round 3 contest against reigning premiers the Penrith Panthers.
